Welcome To "Cee World"

Among the very few in the Canadian Music Industry past or present, Joey Cee has been involved from its early inception. The 45 rpm record ruled, two AM radio stations pumped out the new pop sounds on the Toronto airwaves and Canadian recording artists were just beginning to get recognition. Rock n’ roll was being transformed and the pop culture began. It was a time when the radio deejay was the big star personality and high school dances were the norm.

At twelve years old, Joey already knew what his future would involve. Music and entertaining audiences. There was no school for this. He knew he would have to be self-taught, generate his own ideas and apply them vigorously. Just after he turned sixteen Joey tested his confidence by starting up his first single-handed business venture by starting his weekly Canadian Bandstand ’63 dances on January 9, 1963. It was a hit! With undying determination came success after success. It wasn’t easy, but the desire to weather the storms through each era over four decades, building one learned lesson after another, made him stronger and more determined. He has not only seen it all but has experienced it first hand. The Motown era, the Beatles, R&B, the hippie era, the Vietnam War, the British Pop Invasion, Disco, Techno-pop, psychedelic pop, heavy metal, break dancing, rap, hiphop….. you name it, somehow Joey was involved in it.

Throughout the decades Joey Cee has earned many accolades for his work. His proudest accomplishment, however, is pioneering the support of Canadian artists in Canada and abroad. He was the first with an exclusive national radio feature, a newspaper column and a magazine that did just that – promote Canadian talent. Continuing his mission, he created and produced Showcase Canada Day in Los Angeles for several years. He has also been a Juno Award judge several times. At every turn, if Joey had the chance to support homegrown talent, he would gladly get involved. Ironically, he became a recording talent himself and a colleague of those he supported all those years. To this day, this mandate continues through most of his ongoing productions.

The story of Joey Cee and his unique experiences would require several books to be written. Since time is a rare commodity, the books would have to wait a little longer.
